Marin Therapist

Marin TherapistI am a therapist practicing in Marin County, specializing in psychoanalysis, psychotherapy and counseling. I treat adult individuals who are suffering from depression, other longstanding emotional problems, and troubling psychosomatic symptoms.  As a psychoanalyst, I can assist you on the classic and still the most adventurous road to relief: the search for self-understanding.

Symptoms

What is the problem?

Perhaps you have some symptom – such as depression, anxiety attacks, an eating disorder, sexual difficulties, relationship problems – or you are simply upset and dissatisfied and you don’t even know why.

How do relationship patterns cause problems and symptoms?

Our outer relationships are influenced for good or ill by ingrained, inner relationships.  For instance, a romantic partnership will start out very well, but after several months familiar conflicts begin to turn up. The inner patterns also influence our sense of self and how we relate to our bodies.  They can even produce somatic symptoms.

Supervision

What’s offered for health professionals?

I can offer doctors, nurses, psychologists, psychotherapists and psychoanalysts a Kleinian understanding of clinical material through Balint groups and through supervision.

Psychoanalysis

How can psychotherapy or psychoanalysis help you?

In psychotherapy you can express your thoughts and feelings and gain insight into some of the unconscious sources of  your conflicts and problems. With the help of psychoanalysis you will discover the relationship patterns that have been established early in your life.  With help and over time, you can learn to deal with them differently and, to some extent, even change them.

Why are there daily sessions in psychoanalysis and why does it take so long?

The high frequency of the sessions is necessary in order that the relationship patterns can become really evident and accessible.  What needs attention the most is also what causes us the most pain.  One needs time to approach the difficult areas at one’s own pace.

German

Having practiced for many years in Germany, I am fluent in German, familiar with the German and European cultures, and I offer psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, counseling and couples therapy to native German speakers.
